No matter what type of game you’re thinking about playing — poker, blackjack, roulette, craps, baccarat and more — you are going to have to be confident. We love poker, so we tend to focus on that. If you’re going to jump into the world of online poker, you’re going to have to make sure that you’re being as confident as possible. There are plenty of players that are willing to crush you at all costs. Why let yourself be afraid? They’re more than happy to crush your spirit for you. There’s no need to help them out by beating yourself up before you’ve even had a chance to play. We actually run into a lot of people that just assume that they’re not good enough to play online poker. The truth is that they could actually do very well in poker at the lower stakes and work their way up. That’s how we started a few years ago, and it’s paid off in the long run.
We’re confident because there’s no greater feeling. Believing in yourself is very powerful.
But you have to also be grounded in terms of common sense. We’re not saying that you should believe in yourself so much that you never fold when you know that you’re beaten. Chasing the river isn’t going to be a sign of confidence. If anything, it’s a sign of desperation. You have to make sure that you’re really thinking about your poker game from the top down. We talk a lot about the mental side of poker because if you don’t have your mind right, you just can’t play right. You’re vulnerable to manipulation from other players.
Be sure that you’re giving yourself all of the right resources. Going to a poker forum where there are some really good players can raise your confidence even more. Looking up to other poker players is fine, but you don’t want to worship anybody. You’re just as good as everyone else. Believing that will help you develop a healthy sense of self.
Playing poker for real money should make you feel good. This is one of the few forms of entertainment that actually pays you when you do well. Sure, there are going to be times that you don’t win as much as you want. There are going to be even times where you fail miserably. But you’re doing better than all of the people who simply turn on the television and watch the WSOP. That’s powerful! You are actually doing something rather than just wishing that everything fit together automatically without you having to lift a finger. Good luck!
