Gambling dates back as long as 1500 but online gambling started to expand and get attention in the late 90s. Nonetheless, it is growing so fast that in the near future it might even outgrow the traditional gambling. For some, gambling on the Internet is much more convenient, since it allows you to enjoy it from the comfort of the home. But for others, it is not their plan A.
There are many advantages and disadvantages associated with gambling on the Internet. While for some people it is the quickest way to get to a casino, some others wouldn’t even consider wagering their money on the web. And it is true – these online casinos have plenty of advantages, but disadvantages are also present.
The bright side of all these virtual casinos is that they are very easy to use. Even the 80 year olds with no Internet experience can do it, since most of them are self explanatory. Apart from that, they are also easy to find and are advertised almost anywhere on the Internet (even in the annoying pop-ups).
“What are the disadvantages then”, some might ask. There are many of those as well. As a first, online gambling is prohibited in many countries. USA has various state regulations about this issue and lately the law has been criticized and might be altered.
Secondly, there are a few scam websites whose intentions are to gain access to people’s credit cards and use them uncontrollably. But this is no concern if you firstly make a quick search on the Internet and find some reviews about the website. Sure they might operate in Cyprus, Gibraltar or in some countries you may have never heard of, but it’s only these countries that have legalized online gambling, unlike the developed countries.
Melanie Brenner, president of the U.S. Online Gaming Association, said that more than 10 million people play online poker. It is estimated that the annual revenue from online gambling is in the region of $80 billion. Gaming experts consider that very soon the online casinos will generate more revenue than the traditional casinos – and the day is very close to come!
$80 billion is without doubt a huge amount of money. The owners of the largest casino in the US, the Foxwoods Resort, Ledyard, Connecticut (yes, it is not in Vegas!) would not be so happy to hear about this. But one thing is sure – all the facts indicate that online gambling might become legalized on the near future
